Welcome in to the studio! This space is for all of us.
Thanks for catching up with the Friday Four series, simply the 4 weekly highlights from behind the scenes at Tura Lura Co. in West Branch.
I got into candle making because it’s kind of like baking. A little bit of artistry and a little bit of science. Last week on social media I shared my favorite easy peasy GF cookie recipe that I’ve been bringing into the studio to share - thumbprint cookies! In case you missed it all you need to do it mix 2 cups almond flour, 6 tablespoons softened butter, 6 tablespoons of powdered sugar, plus a dash of salt and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Roll into balls and press your thumb into it, then fill your thumbprint with your favorite jam. Bake 8-10 minutes and viola! A magical little treat.
In addition to baking, I have been helping people making up candles in West Branch and across Iowa! It’s probably been my busiest week this calendar year. Plus, Candle Pour Bar continues into next week with more private parties and events to gather and celebrate. While there are no more public facing classes in 2024, the next open candle event is on February 11 at Big Grove in Iowa City!
If you can’t wait until February for another candle, I kept the option for custom candles on the website. Some folks are using this for a last minute personalized gift. Feel free to reach out with any last minute holiday requests!
This week has also been significant because I just hosted my last studio party. The boxes are beginning to get packed, and move out will start next week. I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting and will get all my words out in the next two weeks. In lieu of words, here is my friendly reminder to support local this holiday season and spend time with the people you love the most.
With care,
Erika

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… candle making season! I’ve been so lucky to spend multiple nights this week hosting private parties and events for families and teams to gather and celebrate! And, I am already starting to book some after holidays events. Reach out if you want to plan something in 2025!
I’ve gotten a few questions this week about buying candles for the holidays. While I made the hard choice to not pop up this year to sell holiday items, you can always order a custom candle on the website. I keep the list of fragrances updated, so you can select your blend, or send me a note if you want to do something super custom and not on the list!
Saturday is a Christmas Past in West Branch and I am opening my doors from 3-5pm to share my gratitude with you! Swing by for a little goodie from me, and a little treat from one of my kiddos. Stay in town and experience the fun of a Christmas Past!
This is just a friendly reminder to make sure to support your favorite small businesses this season! There have been challenges in 2024, and while it may not be something people outright say - a lot of small businesses need your support. Every dollar you put into a small local business, on average 68 cents stays in your local community. That’s pretty cool.
Happy Friday!
Erika

Shopping small this season? This email is all about supporting locally owned small businesses this season:
Pure Luxe Apothecary has small batch clean skincare. My favorite is the Neroli Face Mist, I keep it on my desk when I need a little pick me up! Owner Leslie offers free local IC area delivery.
A {Made} Community has beautifully made earrings and necklaces that I love picking up as gifts this time of year! And then I get something special and timeless for me too. Owner Rachael will be at the IC Downtown District pop up market from December 5 - 15!
Barre 3 Iowa City is my go to local studio for mindful movement and breathwork. I love the community and the workout. Interested in joining? They have class packages and cute workout gear on sale until 12/2!
Specifically in West Branch there are so many women owned businesses I LOVE. These are small businesses that have made a huge impact on my year and I’ll be shopping at this holiday season. 223 Vintage for pre-loved and sustainable gifts, The Honey Den for stocking stuffer candies, and Leash on Life for all the cute pet things (IC and NL locations) owned by the fabulous 2 Sisters Kennel (which is having their 3rd Annual pictures with Santa & Krampus fundraiser on Sunday December 8th)!
Happy shopping season!
Erika
